Taking its name from the nearby Potomac River, Potomac is a wealthy Montgomery County community with some of the nation’s most spectacular real estate. Great Falls Park and the Potomac River border the community to the south, with Bethesda to the east.

Potomac is one of the wealthiest communities in the United States. Bloomberg Businessweek has recognized Potomac as the largest community with a median household income in excess of $240,000. The Higley Elite 100 named Potomac’s “Carderock-The Palisades” as the United States’ wealthiest neighborhood, ahead of “Beverly Hills-North of Sunset.” Beverly Hills 90210 creator Darren Star based the TV show on his experiences at Potomac’s Winston Churchill High School. Potomac is home to many outstanding restaurants and retailers. Check out Founding Farmers for locally sourced, farm-to-table offerings; Sugo’s authentic Italian cuisine with a modern twist; Addie’s for mussels and raw seafood; and Gringos & Mariachis for Mexican food served in a casual setting. There are many boutique shops and high-end spas and beauty salons. First-class fitness facilities can be found at Gym & Tonic and Orangetheory Fitness.
The surrounding area has some great natural attractions: Experience the dramatic surging rapids at Great Falls, or hike along the Billy Goat Trail. Cabin John Regional Park boasts 8.8 miles of walking and biking trails. For golf there are several country clubs nearby, including the Congressional Country Club and Bethesda Country Club.
Winston Churchill High School is the top-ranked high school in Maryland and 75th best-ranked in the entire country.
